A faith-integrated psychiatric practice in Nashville, Tennessee, specializing in women's mental health, perinatal care, postpartum care, and whole-person healing for moms, dads, and Christians ready to stop struggling and start living in peace and balance.

Most psychiatric appointments last 15 minutes, leave you with a prescription, and send you back out the door feeling unseen and unheard. At Abide, it works differently. I help mothers (and fathers!) who are exhausted, overwhelmed, and quietly falling apart feel genuinely seen, heard, known, and supported by combining evidence-based psychiatric care with the kind of listening, directness, and warmth that actually moves the needle.

I believe that healing is possible for anyone, and that it happens fastest when someone finally both tells you the truth about what is going on and stays with you long enough to help you find a sustainable solution.

Now Accepting New Patients in Tennessee

Hi, I’m Erika Torres, APRN, PMHNP-BC!

I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner who believes that healing happens when someone finally takes the time to listen, asks the right questions, and is committed to finding solutions and answers that truly bring lasting success.

My path to this work was anything but straight. I grew up on a cattle farm in Colorado, became a competitive boxer in New York City, and somewhere between, found my way to Columbia University and then Vanderbilt, where I trained as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. It was my own experience with postpartum depression after the birth of my first daughter that made this work personal. Seven months of intrusive thoughts and quiet tears in the dark before I finally got help, and then just three days on the right medication before I felt like myself again. That gap between suffering and relief, and everything that keeps women stuck in it, is exactly why I now do what I do. At Abide, you will never feel like a chart number or a 15-minute slot; you are my sole focus.

Do you…

…Lie awake at 2am running through everything you did wrong that day, wondering if you are cut out for this?

…Feel like everyone else has figured out something about motherhood that you are somehow missing?

…Love your children fiercely and also grieve the version of yourself you were before they arrived?

…Snap at the people you love most and then spend the rest of the day sick with guilt about it?

…Know exactly what you should be doing to feel better but cannot find the energy or the bandwidth to actually do it?

…Carry your faith like a lifeline but secretly wonder why trusting God does not seem to be making the anxiety go away?

…Feel like every psychiatrist you have seen has handed you a prescription and called it a plan?

…Wish you had someone who would actually listen, actually explain what is going on, and actually stay with you through the hard parts?

You are not broken. You are overwhelmed, undertreated, and overdue for care that takes all of you seriously.

At Abide, I treat:

  • Postpartum depression and anxiety

  • Perinatal and pregnancy-related mood disorders

  • Birth trauma and PTSD

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Bipolar disorder

  • ADHD (including in pregnancy and postpartum)

  • Hormonal and reproductive mood disorders, including perimenopause and menopause

  • Christians looking for faith-integrated mental health support

  • "It’s not that you can’t keep doing this. You definitely can, because you’re doing it now. But you can also ask for help, because with the right help it doesn’t have to be this hard forever."

    — Erika Torres

Care at Abide goes beyond the prescription pad. Every treatment plan is built around you: your history, your goals, your faith, and your life.

How We Heal Together

  • Thoughtful, evidence-based prescribing that keeps you informed and in control. Specialized training in pregnancy and breastfeeding-safe medication means you will never be told to just stop your medications because a baby is involved.

  • Practical tools to interrupt the thought spirals and behavioral patterns that are keeping you stuck, so you can feel better in real life, not just in the therapy room.

  • A guided conversation that helps you get clear on what you actually want, so the changes you make stick.

  • For patients who desire it, faith and scripture are woven into the therapeutic work. Because the wisest guidance for the human condition has always been found in God's word.

  • Sleep, nutrition, movement, community, purpose. Sometimes the missing piece isn’t a medication but instead has something to do with how you are actually living. We look at the whole picture.
